In Case You Missed It… 2020
In a year like no other, VolCorp’s 2020 Annual Meeting was chased off the stage and onto the big screen and the Forum was replaced with our first-ever virtual Educational Summit, Insight 2020. While we missed being able to network and fellowship among friends, we did still have the benefit of some fantastic speakers in the Summit and a great educational opportunity for all who logged in for the event. Thank you to Karen Clabough, Phillip Cochran, Jeff Dato, and Tyler McNair for providing expertise and great content, Wade Stapleton and Lisa Wright for a quick pivot to organize successful virtual events, and thank you, also, to all who supported the events through your attendance.
As is customary, a part of the Annual Meeting was the President’s Address. One thing that remained the same as in years past was my approach. I still spent little time on the past and more on the future and trying to bring some value in the form of something educational, inspirational, or motivational that you can take back to your credit union, your friends and your family. If you would like to see the presentation in its entirety, the video is archived here.
As an alternative, here are a few of the highlights in In Case You Missed it…2020:
This year’s presentation was centered on VolCorp’s Foundational Strength and 3 insights as to what that has meant to VolCorp in this unprecedented time and how that translates for our members today, tomorrow and every day.
The first insight was the State of the Corporate. I talked about the areas in which we have brought focus to strengthening our foundation, namely culture, regulatory posture, risk management, financial, internal structure, and our momentum/purpose. With some supporting data to show where our financial strength stood at year-end and, subsequently, as of month-end July ’20, I then transitioned into how that strong foundation has been key in allowing our momentum and purpose to continue full speed ahead despite COVID-19.
With that, Insight #2 was the COVID Impact. Highlighting that we have had no COVID slowdown in operations or strategic pursuits was only possibly because of the strength of our financial foundation and our understanding of our purpose. We talked about the ‘Today’, the ‘Tomorrow’ and the ‘Everyday’ as it relates to our pursuits. I discussed the importance of us continuing to live our purpose, despite our circumstances, and quoted John Acuff who recently said, “(he) had peace, but only under the right conditions. But, we have no control. We must have peace despite our circumstances, not because of our circumstances.”
I gave some additional commentary about this before moving on to Insight #3, which was What’s to Come. I noted that ‘Hope’ is future oriented faith, meaning good is coming. There is great hope in the days that lie ahead as much good is coming from VolCorp and for our members. As I talked a little bit about what lies ahead, I emphasized that it all rests upon the goal to provide our credit unions a member experience that is unparalleled anywhere. I quoted a song I recently heard at church that states, “It may look like I’m surrounded, but I’m surrounded by you.” While the song carries a much deeper meaning, of course, it did make me think about how, in a time like this, when we are surrounded by so much turmoil and uncertainty, it is great to have business partners who provide you with peace of mind. There is nothing better than being comfortable with whom or what surrounds you.
I summed up my presentation by saying essentially this:
“Feed your faith, starve your fears and know that, if we heed Paul’s advice and don’t give up, the best days are ahead of us all. Have confidence that the foundational strength built by VolCorp over the last 4 decades can help contribute to your peace of mind today, tomorrow, and every day, despite COVID-19 circumstances. Together we create foundational strength for each other. Together, we all have hope and can offer hope. And, together, we can reclaim today for the benefit of VolCorp, our members, and your members. Thank you for your belief in us. Thank you for your continued support of us. And, God bless you all.”

We are proud to do what we do for you and look forward to doing it for many years to come. As I do annually, I just wanted to get this information in front of you for your review…in case you missed it.
Passionately committed to your success,
