VolCorp Sponsors Leukemia Society
in Music City Marathon
5/19/05
NASHVILLE - -
Volunteer Corporate Credit Union (VolCorp) recently was a corporate sponsor for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in the
6th Annual Country Music Marathon. According to VolCorp’s President/CEO Bruce Fahnestock, “Sponsorship in this event was to honor Ray Algee, Memphis Area Teachers Credit Union CEO and former VolCorp Board member and cancer survivor.” Walking the half marathon in honor of Ray was VolCorp’s Vice President of Marketing and Operations, Sandy Swofford.
To prepare for the event, Sandy trained with Team In Training, an organization that is associated with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. In addition to training for the race, Team In Training participants raise funds for the society’s leukemia research. For the 2005 race, the Tennessee chapter raised over $600,000, and nationwide, over $2.5 million was raised with the help of sponsors, participants, and volunteers.
Sandy had this to say about the experience, “Almost everyone has been touched by cancer and I was privileged to raise funds for cancer research as well as fulfill a personal goal of completing a half marathon.”
